David Bellamy, the former chief executive of wealth manager St. James's Place, has taken up a new role as a non-executive director at Quanta, a specialist insurance technology company. The appointment was announced on Monday, with Bellamy joining the board with immediate effect.
Bellamy's Background and Move
Bellamy stepped down as CEO of St. James's Place in 2020 after leading the firm for over a decade. During his tenure, the company's assets under management grew from £28 billion to over £100 billion. He also oversaw the firm's expansion into Asia and the acquisition of wealth management businesses. Prior to St. James's Place, Bellamy held senior roles at Prudential and Axa.
Quanta, which is based in London, provides technology solutions for the insurance industry, including underwriting and claims management systems. The company has been growing rapidly, with revenues increasing by 30% in the last financial year to £45 million, according to its latest annual report.
Quanta's Growth and Strategy
The appointment of Bellamy is seen as a boost to Quanta's board as the company seeks to expand its client base and develop new products. Quanta's CEO, Sarah Jones, said: 'David's experience in scaling a financial services business and his deep understanding of the regulatory environment will be invaluable as we continue to grow.'
Bellamy added: 'I am delighted to join Quanta at such an exciting time. The company has a strong track record of innovation and a clear vision for the future of insurance technology.'
Impact on the Insurance Tech Sector
The move highlights the growing trend of senior executives from traditional financial services moving into the technology sector. Quanta has been at the forefront of digitizing the insurance industry, and Bellamy's appointment could signal further expansion plans. The company recently secured a £20 million investment from a consortium of venture capital firms to fund its international growth.
