A California woman's routine package delivery turned into a nightmare after her home security camera allegedly captured an Amazon driver stealing her beloved cat.
Doorbell Footage Captures Disturbing Incident
The incident occurred at the Lakewood, California home of Diane Huff Medina on December 17, 2025. Ring doorbell video shows a person in a high-visibility vest placing a parcel on the porch. The family cat, Piper, can be heard meowing in the background. The driver then approaches the animal, appears to stroke it, and is then seen allegedly picking Piper up by the neck before walking away with her.
Diane told local broadcaster KABC-TV that the initial viewing left her stunned. "I thought he was just petting her for a second," she said. "I had to rewatch it a couple of times because it is hard to see, it's dark, and he doesn't carry her very nicely. I see her little tail and I was like 'Oh my God', I couldn't believe what I was seeing."
Desperate Plea for Piper's Return
In a desperate bid to find her missing pet, Diane shared the footage and photos of Piper on Facebook. She wrote in her post: "We just want her back home safely." The community response was swift, with many sharing the appeal online.
In a subsequent update, Diane provided a crucial development: "The person responsible was found and charges are being filed." However, she added the heartbreaking note that "Piper is still missing."
Ongoing Investigation and Official Responses
Authorities at the Lakewood Sheriff's Station are involved in the case. Metro has contacted Diane, Amazon, and the Sheriff's Station for official comment. The incident raises serious questions about conduct and security during doorstep deliveries.
Pet theft is a deeply distressing crime for owners, and this case, captured so clearly on camera, has sparked widespread outrage and concern. The hope remains that Piper will be found and returned safely to her family.
