EA Sports FC has correctly predicted the winner of the FIFA World Cup for the fifth consecutive time, as Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 final on July 19. The victory, secured by an extra-time goal from Ferran Torres, gave Spain their second World Cup title after 2010.
Prediction streak continues
Before the tournament, EA Sports FC ran simulations of every group stage match in EA Sports FC 26, followed by knockout round simulations based on those outcomes. On June 6, the EA Sports FC account on X predicted Spain would win. The streak began with Spain's 2010 victory, followed by Germany in 2014, France in 2018, and Argentina in 2022.
In a post on X, EA Sports FC celebrated: 'We called it. You played it. Spain made it a reality. Five predictions in a row, and @SEFutbol lifted the trophy 11M+ times across #FC26 and #FCMobile. Congratulations on your second star.'
Accuracy across tournaments
EA also correctly predicted the Super Bowl winner for the third straight year via Madden in 2026, though its history before that is inconsistent. The World Cup prediction is considered more impressive because it simulates the entire tournament across all 48 teams, increasing the margin for error.
The franchise rebranded from FIFA to EA Sports FC after FIFA demanded $1 billion to use its name. Consequently, EA no longer has rights to the World Cup name and uses an off-brand mode called The World's Game.
Upcoming release
EA is expected to unveil EA Sports FC 27 soon. According to leaks, it will launch on September 25 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
