British Transport Police (BTP) have launched a public appeal for information two weeks after a woman was sexually assaulted at a London Underground station.
Details of the Sloane Square Attack
The incident occurred on the stairs at Sloane Square station in Chelsea on Sunday, 4 January, shortly before 2pm. According to police, the suspect pounced on the victim as the pair passed each other on the stairwell.
Detectives have now released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the assault. A BTP statement said: "Detectives would like to speak to the man pictured, as they believe he may have information which could help their investigation."
The image shows a middle-aged man with short black hair and stubble. He was wearing a black top under a hooded black jacket with tassels.
A Wider Pattern of Offences on the Network
This shocking assault is not an isolated case on London's transport network. In a separate investigation, police are also searching for a man who committed an upskirting offence against a female passenger on the Victoria line. The offender was caught taking inappropriate photographs as the train approached Finsbury Park station.
Official figures from Transport for London (TfL) reveal the scale of the issue. In the 2024-25 reporting period, there were 595 sexual offences reported across all London Underground lines. The Central line recorded the highest number at 124 incidents, followed by the Northern line with 104.
How to Help the Investigation
Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image is urged to contact the British Transport Police immediately. You can text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference number 600 of 5 January.
Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
