Commuters in West London are facing a difficult Wednesday morning as the Piccadilly line has been partially closed and is experiencing significant delays, just as the rush hour gets underway.
Section Shutdown and Widespread Delays
The Piccadilly line remains shut between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge this morning, Wednesday, November 12. Transport for London (TfL) has implemented the closure to mitigate damage to train wheels caused by significant leaf fall on the tracks, a recurring issue throughout the autumn season.
Beyond this closure, other parts of the line are also facing major hold-ups. Due to a late finish to overnight engineering work, services from Barons Court are experiencing severe delays on both the Heathrow and Rayners Lane branches. This dual problem of weather and engineering is creating a perfect storm for travellers relying on this key route.
Disruption Across the Network
The travel woes are not confined to the Piccadilly line. Elsewhere on the London Underground network, the Central line is also facing minor disruptions. These are affecting services between Hainault and both Leytonstone and Woodford, reportedly due to a number of train cancellations.
Passengers are being strongly advised to check the latest TfL status updates before they begin their journeys and to allow for considerable extra travel time. The combination of the part-closure and the severe delays is expected to cause significant congestion, particularly during the peak morning travel period.
