Police have launched a major manhunt for a group of five young men following a vicious late-night assault at a central London Tube station that left one victim with a fractured skull.
Violent Altercation Escalates at Bank Station
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 21 December 2025. According to the British Transport Police (BTP), two men were walking towards the Bank Underground station entrance just after midnight when they became involved in an altercation with a man walking in the opposite direction.
Shortly after this initial confrontation, the pair were chased into the station by a group of five men, which included the individual from the earlier encounter. A serious assault then took place within the station.
Victim Pushed Head-First Down Stairs
Both victims sustained serious injuries during the attack. One man was pushed head-first into a staircase, suffering a fractured skull. He remains in hospital receiving treatment for his severe injuries.
Following the assault, the group of five men fled the scene. BTP officers have now released images of individuals they wish to identify and speak to, believing they may hold vital information about the investigation.
Separate Balham Station Incident Under Investigation
This violent attack came after a separate incident being probed by the BTP at Balham railway station in south London. On Wednesday, 20 November, during the morning rush hour around 8am, a woman struck a young girl, believed to be of primary school age, in the side of the head as the child passed through a ticket barrier.
The force of the blow caused the girl to smash her head against a nearby wall. When two members of the public challenged the woman, she reportedly became aggressive and threatening. Both the girl and the woman left the station shortly afterwards.
Officers are urging anyone with information about either incident to come forward. Regarding the Bank station attack, Detective Constable John Smith of BTP said: "This was a brutal and sustained assault which has left a man with life-changing injuries. We need the public's help to identify these individuals."
