Wolverine PS5 console revealed but DualSense steals the show

Sony has announced a limited edition PS5 console and controller based on Marvel’s Wolverine, including an Adamantium version. The announcement comes as the PlayStation 5 has been criticized for a lack of games that fully utilize the hardware, yet Sony has continued to release special edition console accessories.

Previous releases include console covers for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary and DualSense controllers themed around Astro Bot, Marathon, Ghost Of Yotei, God Of War, and 007 First Light. With Marvel’s Wolverine, an exclusive for the PS5, on the horizon, Sony has unveiled a new set of accessories to mark its launch.

Design and Pricing

The accessories include console covers inspired by the game, featuring a slashed-up design in yellow or silver, the latter labeled as Adamantium, the fictional metal in Wolverine’s claws. These covers were designed by Jock, a Scottish graphic artist who created the game’s key art. The DualSense controller, which shares a similar design but without the Wolverine head, is also available in yellow and Adamantium versions, though the yellow is noted as more visually striking.

Pricing details: The PS5 Digital Edition – Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Edition Bundle, which includes the accessories and a digital copy of the game, costs £569.99. The yellow console cover for existing PS5 consoles (standard, digital, or PS5 Pro) is £64.99. The Adamantium cover is the same price but only compatible with PS5 Pro consoles. The DualSense controller is priced at £74.99.

Artist's Perspective and Pre-Order Information

Speaking on the PlayStation blog, Jock said: ‘I wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel’s Wolverine Limited PS5 Console bundle and accessories. I still draw all my artwork traditionally, so the opportunity to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I’m stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, bringing Wolverine to life in a completely unique way.’

Pre-orders for the accessories open on August 19 at 10am UK time via the PlayStation Direct store. Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on September 15, a month packed with other major releases including Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Control Resonant.
