Smoke on Track Causes Major Delays at London Waterloo

Train services in and out of London Waterloo are facing significant disruption after smoke was reported on the track. South Western Railway (SWR) confirmed that smoke was spotted between London Waterloo and Vauxhall stations, forcing trains to run at reduced speeds on some lines while a safety inspection is carried out. Disruption is expected to continue until at least 11am.

Affected Routes and Delays

Passengers have been warned of delays on services to and from London Waterloo and several destinations, including Guildford, Woking, Chessington South, Dorking, Hampton Court, Shepperton, and Strawberry Hill. SWR has not confirmed whether the incident is linked to high temperatures, but the company has taken precautionary measures.

An SWR spokesperson stated: “Response teams have been advised and are on their way, but there is no estimated time of arrival at the moment.” The company has also cancelled a number of services scheduled for the afternoon and early evening of Tuesday to minimize potential disruption from the hot weather.
