A person has died after being struck by a train at Walthamstow Queen's Road Overground station in East London this morning (September 16). Emergency services were called to the station at around 5.55am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Casualty pronounced dead at the scene
The injured person was declared dead at the scene, according to a statement from the British Transport Police (BTP). Their age and gender have not been released. The force stated that the incident is not being treated as suspicious and that a file will be prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest.
Transport for London suspended the Suffragette line between South Tottenham and Barking Riverside while police and paramedics attended the station. The London Ambulance Service dispatched a hazardous area response team (HART) and a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance.
Emergency response and service suspension
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.57am today (16 September) to reports of a person hit by a train at Walthamstow Queens Road Rail Station, E17."
The spokesperson added: "We sent resources to the scene, including a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and paramedics from our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene."
Services resume on the Suffragette line
The Suffragette line has since resumed normal operation. The British Transport Police continue to investigate the circumstances, though the incident is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner, and an inquest will be held in due course.
