Overnight Motorway Closures in London and Kent on August 12
Overnight Motorway Closures in London, Kent Aug 12

National Highways has confirmed a series of overnight motorway closures across Greater London and Kent for the night of Wednesday, August 12, into Thursday, August 13. The affected motorways are the M2, M20, and M25, with disruptions likely for commuters and travellers heading towards the Channel Tunnel.

The closures are scheduled to run from 8pm to 6am, unless they extend beyond 12 hours, as stated on the National Highways website. Motorists planning early morning journeys are advised that their routes may still be impacted by closures that began the previous evening. Most roads are expected to reopen by 6am on Thursday, with the exception of a long-term closure at junction 8 of the M20.

Greater London Closures on the M25

Several sections of the M25 will be closed overnight, affecting both clockwise and anti-clockwise traffic. The following closures are scheduled from 10pm to 5:30am:

  • M25 Anti-clockwise: Junctions 9 to 8 – carriageway closure
  • M25 Both directions: Junction 29 – roundabout closure
  • M25 Clockwise: Junction 4 – entry slip road closure

  • M25 Anti-clockwise: Junction 10 to A3 Northbound Wisley link road – closure
  • M25 Clockwise: Junction 6 – exit slip closure

These closures will affect drivers using the M25 during the night, with diversions likely in place. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes.

Kent Closures on the M2 and M20

In Kent, the M2 will see eastbound slip road closures at junctions 6 and 3. The junction 6 exit slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am, while the entry and exit slip roads at junction 3 will be closed from 8pm to 5am.

The M20 will have a westbound carriageway closure from junction 3 to junction 1, scheduled from 10pm to 5:30am. Additionally, a long-term eastbound entry slip road closure at junction 8 will be in effect from 6am to 8pm on August 25, which may affect daytime travel as well.

Impact on Travel and Advice

These closures are part of routine maintenance and improvement works carried out by National Highways. Drivers planning to use these motorways overnight should check the latest travel updates and plan their journeys accordingly. The Channel Tunnel route via the M20 is particularly affected, so travellers heading to Europe should be prepared for potential delays.

All closures are expected to be lifted by 6am on Thursday, August 13, except for the ongoing M20 junction 8 slip road closure, which will continue into the following week. Motorists are urged to follow diversion signs and adhere to temporary speed limits for their safety and the safety of road workers.
