Transport for London (TfL) has announced closures on nine lines across its network this weekend, Saturday October 17 and Sunday October 18, as maintenance and improvement works proceed. The Piccadilly line upgrade is the main driver, with track closures between Hammersmith and Heathrow Airport and Uxbridge, prompting advice for air travellers to use the Elizabeth line instead. A section of the District line in West London will also be closed to facilitate these works.
London Underground closures
On the District line, no service will run between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway on both days due to Piccadilly line upgrade works. Additionally, until November, westbound trains will not stop at Barons Court station because of staircase and canopy improvement work.
The Piccadilly line will see no service between Hammersmith and Heathrow/Uxbridge on Saturday and Sunday, including during Friday and Saturday Night Tube, due to the upgrade works. For travel between Central London and Heathrow, passengers are advised to use the Elizabeth line. Piccadilly line trains will also not stop at Turnham Green or Acton Town on these days. Until November, westbound trains will not stop at Barons Court station for the same improvement work.
London Overground and other closures
On the London Overground, the Mildmay line will have no service between Gospel Oak and Stratford until 11.15am on Sunday, and no service between Camden Road and Stratford after 10.15pm on Sunday, due to Network Rail maintenance. The Suffragette line will have no service between Barking and Barking Riverside all day Sunday. The Weaver line will be closed between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt on both days, affecting direct trains from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport. The Windrush line will have no service between Surrey Quays and New Cross after 10pm on Sunday.
On the DLR, no service will run between Tower Gateway and Shadwell on Sunday due to construction work next to Tower Gateway station. The Elizabeth line will not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell, and West Ealing on Sunday due to Network Rail maintenance. Trams will be suspended between Sandilands and New Addington on both days for engineering works, followed by a 13-day closure in Croydon from October 24.
Gatwick and Stansted travel warning
Holidaymakers heading to Gatwick or Stansted airports face disruption. Gatwick Express and Southern services between Victoria and Gatwick Airport, Brighton, and the Sussex coast will be affected all weekend due to Network Rail engineering work. On Saturday, a reduced service will run to and from Victoria, with some trains diverted to London Bridge. On Sunday, no Southern or Gatwick Express trains will run to or from Victoria all day; passengers should instead use Blackfriars or London Bridge. Southeastern services at Victoria are unaffected on either day.
There will be no direct trains from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport this weekend due to track work, as warned by GBR Anglia. Passengers heading to Stansted must travel from King's Cross to Cambridge and change trains to reach the airport at no extra cost. The Weaver line closure between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt will be served by a replacement bus every half an hour, while trains to Enfield Town and Chingford remain unaffected.
