Drivers faced significant delays on the M25 in Kent on Saturday after a crash involving a lorry brought weekend traffic to a standstill on the UK's busiest motorway. The incident occurred on the clockwise carriageway between junction 5 (Sevenoaks) and junction 6 (Godstone) in the morning, leading to the closure of two lanes.
Delays and Congestion
National Highways reported delays of up to 56 minutes, with congestion stretching back four miles towards junction 4. Lanes one and two of four remained closed as emergency services attended the scene. The disruption also spilled onto the M26, causing queues on the westbound carriageway towards junction 2A and the M20.
Recovery Operation Underway
A spokesperson for National Highways said: 'Lanes 1 & 2 (of 4) remain closed on the M25 clockwise between J5 & J6 after a HGV collided with the nearside barrier/fence. Recovery work is progressing.' Motorists were advised to allow extra travel time or seek alternative routes.
The crash comes as weekend travellers faced disruption on one of the busiest stretches of the M25. No injuries have been reported, but the recovery operation is expected to continue into the afternoon. Drivers are urged to check live traffic updates before setting out.
