Elizabeth line tunnel closed due to water leak
The Elizabeth line is experiencing severe delays between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 after a water leak prompted the closure of a tunnel. National Rail confirmed the shutdown was implemented for safety reasons, with trains currently running at reduced speeds while crews work to resolve the issue.
It remains unclear when the route will fully reopen, as only one section of the line is currently operational. Transport for London (TfL) advises passengers to use the Piccadilly line or local bus services as alternatives, with tickets being accepted on both at no extra cost. The rest of the Elizabeth line is reported to have a good service.
Gatwick services disrupted by trackside fire
Rail travel to Gatwick Airport continues to be affected following a trackside fire overnight. Firefighters were called to a blaze between the airport and Purley, in Croydon, at around 10pm yesterday (August 9). The incident has resulted in fewer trains being able to run this afternoon, with disruption expected until at least 3pm.
National Rail has not yet provided a timeline for full restoration of services on this route. Passengers are urged to check their journey ahead of travel and allow extra time.
