E-bike rider, 19, dies after Eltham Hill crash

A 19-year-old man has died following a collision between an e-bike and a parked car in Eltham, southeast London. The incident occurred at approximately 5.13pm on September 28 on Eltham Hill. The rider was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a critical condition, but has since succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirm marked car in vicinity

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that a marked police car was in the immediate vicinity of the e-bike prior to the crash. The force's Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed, and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the police standards watchdog.

The man's next of kin are being supported by specialist officers. Detective Inspector Glen Mera said: "Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss."

Investigation and appeal for witnesses

DI Mera added: "We are continuing to establish the full circumstances around the collision, and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any piece of information you have could be vital in our investigation."

Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have doorbell or dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 5340/28SEP. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal crash.
