A tragic collision on a major Cambridgeshire road has claimed the life of a two-year-old boy and left five others with serious injuries.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, at around 6:20pm on the A1 northbound carriageway. According to Cambridgeshire Police, a Toyota Auris had broken down and was stationary in a lane near the Stibbington Junction.

The stationary Toyota was then struck by a Volkswagen Touran. The impact proved fatal for the young boy, who was from London. The five other occupants of the Toyota were all rushed to Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as a 64-year-old man from Peterborough, sustained only minor injuries. He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police Investigation and Witness Appeal

Cambridgeshire Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Sergeant David Mcllwhan expressed the force's condolences, stating: ‘Our thoughts are with the parents and family of this young child who has tragically lost his life in this collision.’

The family is receiving support from specialist officers. Police are now urgently appealing to the public for information that could assist their inquiry.

Sgt Mcllwhan appealed: ‘I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage but was unable to stop at the scene to get in touch.’
