London's buses remain one of the most affordable ways to get around the city, with a single fare costing just £1.75. This summer, that single ticket will go even further thanks to the expansion of Transport for London's (TfL) 'Hopper' fare. The new Weekend Hopper allows passengers unlimited travel on buses and trams for an entire weekend—48 hours—for the price of a single fare.
How the Weekend Hopper Works
The Hopper fare, introduced in September 2016, originally allowed a second bus or tram journey within an hour for free. In January 2018, it was expanded to unlimited journeys within an hour. Now, TfL is launching the Weekend Hopper, which will be available on weekends from July 25 to August 31, 2026. The specific weekends are: August 1-2, August 8-9, August 15-16, August 22-23, and August 29-30.
While the current single bus fare is £1.75, TfL has not confirmed whether fares will remain the same in July. Bus ticket prices were frozen in March 2026, but only until July 5, 2026.
Mayor's Comments
Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan said: 'I am determined to continue to help Londoners with the cost-of-living crisis. My Hopper fare has enabled millions of people to enjoy cheaper bus travel. I know how expensive the summer holidays can be for families and my new Weekend Hopper - which is a whopper of a deal - will make it cheaper and easier for Londoners and visitors to enjoy all that our great city has to offer this summer.'
He added: 'I know that buses and trams are a real lifeline for many Londoners, and I'm determined to keep them the most accessible and affordable mode of transport in the capital as we continue building a greener, fairer, better London for everyone.'
Background on Bus Fares
London's bus network, despite slow average speeds of 7.1 mph, remains a budget-friendly option compared to trains and tubes, which have seen significant fare increases since 2006. The Weekend Hopper aims to provide even greater value during the summer holidays.
This promotion is part of TfL's efforts to encourage public transport use and support families during the cost-of-living crisis. The Weekend Hopper offers a cost-effective way to explore London's attractions without worrying about individual fares.
