London's lidos have been bustling this week in the heat, with some even reporting queues around the block lasting over an hour. With that in mind, East London's latest lido can't come quickly enough - and is set to open in a matter of weeks.
Sea Lanes Canary Wharf: Opening Date and Details
Sea Lanes Canary Wharf is the latest project of Sea Lanes, who already operate a successful open-air lido along the seafront in Brighton. Their newest site swaps seaside views for London's skyline, with the new floating pool nestled between skyscrapers in Canary Wharf's Eden Dock.
The lido is set for its grand opening on Friday, June 19, with memberships already available to purchase online. Sea Lanes Canary Wharf is currently offering a limited number of 'founder' memberships for those who join before the official opening date, which includes unlimited swims and sauna access, discounted food and drink and free off-peak swimming at other Sea Lanes sites, amongst other benefits.
Pool Features and Water Quality
The 50-metre long, 12-metre wide pool will have six lanes, perfect for getting some lengths in before work. However, those not used to swimming outdoors should mind that the water in this lido will be unheated as it is freshwater fed directly from the dock itself.
Images and videos of the pool shared by Sea Lanes Canary Wharf on social media have already had a mix of reactions from Londoners. On Instagram, one enthusiastic user said: "Can't wait till it's open! We will be the first people there". Another said "It looks incredible! We can't wait to do some Pilates in the pool".
However, other Londoners have shared their reservations about the new pool, with some asking whether the water is 'clean' or from the 'dirty Thames'. One Instagram user asked: "Dock water is from the Thames! No?"
Thankfully, Sea Lanes Canary Wharf has reassured potential swimmers that the water is clean and frequently tested - and completely separate from the River Thames. In a post shared on their Instagram account, Sea Lanes Canary Wharf said: "Water quality has been carefully considered at every stage of the design for Sea Lanes Canary Wharf, creating a safe and enjoyable place to swim within a unique dock setting. The pool sits within Eden Dock, which is independent from the River Thames. This means the water is not influenced by tidal flows or changing river conditions, helping to maintain consistent water quality throughout the year."
The post adds: "Eden Dock's water quality is rated 'excellent' under EU Bathing Water Standards, reflecting regular monitoring and long-term management of the dock environment."

Sea Lanes Canary Wharf has already published a full list of opening times and membership levels, as well as prices for individual swims, on their website. When launched, the lido will be open from 6am-9pm Monday to Friday, and 7am-7pm Saturday and Sunday.
