An 8-year-old child is among three people taken to hospital after a car struck pedestrians and crashed into a motorway service station on the M4 in South Wales. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 AM on Monday at Cardiff Gate services, located near junction 30 of the M4.
Details of the Incident
According to South Wales Police, a black BMW collided with pedestrians before hitting the main building of the service station. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with around 15 people attempting to lift the car off the victims. The driver, a 76-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital along with an 8-year-old child and a 39-year-old man, both of whom were pedestrians at the time.
Witness Accounts
One witness told WalesOnline, “It was awful. About 15 people were trying to lift the car off.” The witness speculated that the driver may have suffered a medical emergency, saying, “I imagine the driver had a medical emergency as I can’t understand how they went into the building at that speed.”
Police Statement
A South Wales Police spokesman confirmed the investigation into the collision at Cardiff Gate services, where a car collided with a retail premises on the site. The force stated that none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. The three individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
