Eighty firefighters and 12 fire engines were deployed to a major building fire on High Road in Wood Green, North London, near Turnpike Lane tube station, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) has confirmed.

Fire under control after hours of work

The blaze, which affected two adjoining mixed-use buildings, was brought under control by around midnight on Monday, July 6. The LFB received the first of 25 emergency calls at 21:25pm. Crews from Hornsey, Tottenham, Southgate, Holloway, and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The fire is now under control but firefighters will remain on scene through the night working to fully extinguish the fire,” the LFB said in a statement.

Casualties and evacuations

Fifteen people were led to safety from the affected properties. Two individuals were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service for treatment for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Ongoing disruption

Road closures remain in place on High Road near the junction with Turnpike Lane. The LFB has advised members of the public to avoid the area and expect traffic disruption.
