St Kilda's Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Liam Ryan delivered standout performances to secure a 14.12 (96) to 13.10 (88) victory over the GWS Giants at Marvel Stadium. The win was a welcome relief for the Saints, who have struggled to close out tight games this season.
Wanganeen-Milera's midfield mastery
Wanganeen-Milera was exceptional, completing audacious kicks that few others would attempt. His 25 kicks consistently found teammates in tight spaces, embodying the attacking license granted by coach Ross Lyon. A crucial third-quarter long-range effort and a fourth-quarter escape from the pocket set up Cooper Sharman for a key score.
Ryan's six-goal haul
Liam Ryan continued his rich vein of form, kicking a career-best six goals. His craft, spring, and guile were on full display, with each goal celebrated by Creedence Clearwater Revival over the stadium speakers. Ryan has now kicked 11 goals in two weeks after a five-goal performance against Sydney.
The victory moves St Kilda to 7-7 for the season, keeping their finals hopes alive. The Saints face a favorable run home, remaining in Victoria for the rest of the year.
In other round 14 action, North Melbourne survived a scare against West Coast, winning by three points after Jake Waterman missed a late set shot. The Kangaroos have now secured their most wins in a season since 2019.
