Petit: Chelsea should swap Enzo Fernandez for Camavinga

Emmanuel Petit has stated that Enzo Fernandez appears 'fed up' at Chelsea and should depart this summer, with his ideal replacement waiting at Real Madrid. The former Blues midfielder believes a swap deal involving Eduardo Camavinga could benefit all parties.

Fernandez's Chelsea Journey

After a slow start at Stamford Bridge, Fernandez evolved into one of Chelsea's most important players and the club's vice-captain. Last season, the 25-year-old Argentine recorded 15 goals and seven assists, and he is set to play a key role for his country at the 2026 World Cup. However, his time in west London seems to be ending amid reported interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Frustration and Internal Ban

Fernandez has voiced frustration over Chelsea's dismissal of head coach Enzo Maresca in January, and the Blues are likely to miss European football next season. In April, he received a two-match internal ban after praising Madrid as a place to live, fueling transfer speculation. Petit commented: 'Enzo Fernandez should go. You cannot keep a player happy if he wants to leave. He has been one of Chelsea's best players for two years, but you cannot be captain and communicate that way. He's fed up with the mess at Chelsea.'

Swap Deal Suggestion

With Chelsea valuing Fernandez at £120 million, a swap deal could be practical. Petit proposed: 'Eduardo Camavinga in a swap deal? Why not? Camavinga is still young, left Rennes for Madrid at 18, and has played six or seven years there, winning big trophies. He would bring experience to Chelsea's young squad. He is talented and would be a great fit.'

Camavinga, 23, has made 223 Real Madrid appearances, winning two La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues. He can also play left-back. Reports suggest incoming Real manager Jose Mourinho has listed the France international as surplus to requirements, making him available this summer.
