Fabio Paratici is set to end his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, with the club confirming he will join Italian side Fiorentina in a similar recruitment role once the January transfer window shuts.
A Return to Italy for Personal and Professional Reasons
The 53-year-old Italian executive, who only returned to a full-time position at Spurs in mid-October, cited a desire to be based back in his homeland due to changing personal circumstances. His new challenge will be to help Fiorentina, who are currently embroiled in a Serie A relegation battle.
Paratici's move has been anticipated for several weeks. Speculation intensified at the start of January when Tottenham winger Manor Solomon abruptly terminated his loan at Villarreal to join Fiorentina on a temporary deal, a transaction that raised questions about Paratici's immediate allegiances.
A Complex History at Tottenham
Paratici's journey at Spurs has been marked by significant upheaval. He originally served as the club's managing director of football between 2021 and 2023 before resigning. This followed a worldwide football ban from FIFA, related to alleged financial irregularities during his prior role at Juventus.
After a successful appeal, he was permitted to work for Tottenham on a consultancy basis before being reinstated as joint sporting director alongside Johan Lange in October. Lange had been promoted from technical director to share the sporting director duties.
Club Statements Confirm Amicable Departure
Both the club and Paratici have described the departure as amicable. Tottenham's chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, stated: "We have agreed that Fabio will return to Italy following the conclusion of the January transfer window, in line with his wish to move back home. We thank Fabio for his contribution to the club and wish him well for the future."
He emphasised the club's resilience, adding: "Our management structure is designed to be resilient to personnel changes, and it will be business as usual."
Paratici expressed his gratitude, saying: "I want to thank Vinai and the board for accommodating my desire to return to Italy and join Fiorentina. I have loved my time at the club, however this opportunity, together with the need to be based in my homeland, has led me to this decision."
The move brings to a close a turbulent but significant chapter in Tottenham's recent recruitment history, with the club now set to proceed under the guidance of Johan Lange and the existing executive structure.
