West Ham's Paquetá Requests Transfer as Fabrizio Romano Reveals Flamengo Agreement
Paquetá Requests West Ham Exit for Flamengo Move

West Ham United have been rocked by a significant transfer request from their key Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Paquetá, as reported by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Paquetá's Push for a Return to Brazil

The situation at the London Stadium has taken a dramatic turn. According to Fabrizio Romano, Lucas Paquetá has formally informed West Ham of his desire to leave the club and join Brazilian giants Flamengo. The report, posted on social media platform X on 15th January 2026, states that personal terms between the player and Flamengo were agreed days ago.

Romano indicated that new talks between the two clubs are imminent, with Flamengo feeling West Ham may now be open to negotiating an exit. This development comes amid a difficult season for the Hammers, who are seven points from Premier League safety and struggling under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Strike Threats and Sticking Points in Negotiations

While unconfirmed, there have been previous suggestions that the 28-year-old playmaker was willing to go on strike to force a move. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is understood to want to keep Paquetá, but the player's determination could make that impossible.

The financial aspect of the deal presents a major hurdle. West Ham were said to be holding out for a fee of around £50million for a player who is under contract until 2027, with a club option for a further year. However, Flamengo are reportedly reluctant to pay more than £35million. This substantial gap could make negotiations complex, especially in the January transfer window.

Major Blow for Struggling Hammers

Losing Paquetá would be a severe setback for West Ham's survival hopes. He is the club's second-top scorer this season with five goals and one assist across all competitions. Replacing his creativity and goal threat in the middle of the season would be an extremely challenging task for the recruitment team.

The club has already brought in Taty Castellanos and Pablo this month in an attempt to improve their fortunes. However, the potential departure of such a pivotal figure, coupled with the toxic atmosphere surrounding the team, suggests the crisis in East London is deepening.
