Owen Cooper Makes History as Youngest Ever Soccer Aid Participant

Sixteen-year-old award-winning actor Owen Cooper is set to make sporting history by becoming the youngest player ever to participate in Soccer Aid. The Adolescence star will join football legends, celebrities, and internet personalities for the 20th anniversary charity match at London Stadium on May 31, 2026.

Historic Debut for Teen Actor

Cooper, who shot to fame following his breakout role in the Netflix drama Adolescence starring Stephen Graham, expressed his excitement about the historic opportunity. 'I'm incredibly proud to be playing at Soccer Aid for Unicef in its 20th anniversary year,' Cooper said. 'I wasn't even born when the first Soccer Aid took place but I'm a big fan! Becoming the youngest player to take part is a real honour and I'm excited to step out at the London Stadium.'

The actor, who most recently featured in Emerald Fennell's film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, emphasized the importance of the fundraising event. 'This event raises vital funds to help children grow up safe, healthy and able to play – and I'm grateful to be part of such an important cause.'

Cooper will join an impressive roster of debutants and returning stars for the milestone event. The England team will feature:

Special Commemorations and Management

In a historic first, Olympic legend Usain Bolt will manage the Soccer Aid World XI FC when he returns to the London Stadium, scene of his 2012 Olympic triumphs. Bolt will have an impressive squad to choose from, including comedian Maisie Adam, rapper Big Zuu, Scottish actor Richard Gadd, and The Last Leg's Alex Brooker.

To commemorate 60 years since England's World Cup victory, the England team will wear the white home kit from the 1966 match, while the Soccer Aid World XI FC will sport a bespoke Adidas kit.

Broadcast and Hosting Details

The 20th anniversary match will be broadcast live on ITV1, STV, and ITVX on May 31. Unicef UK ambassador and This Morning presenter Dermot O'Leary will host the event, joined by sports presenter and former footballer Alex Scott. Broadcaster Sam Matterface returns as commentator.

Since its inception in 2006, Soccer Aid has raised millions for Unicef, with England winning six matches and the Soccer Aid World XI FC winning eight. The 2025 match saw a dramatic 5-4 victory for the Rest of the World side, with former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez scoring four goals and sparking controversy with Angry Ginge.

This year's event promises to be particularly special as it celebrates two decades of fundraising for children's causes worldwide, bringing together sports legends, entertainment stars, and internet personalities for one unforgettable night of football.
