Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid to sign two new midfielders this summer amid Manchester United's interest in Aurelien Tchouameni. The Portuguese coach, known as 'The Special One', is set to return to the Bernabeu 13 years after his first spell in charge, with the club in a state of disarray following a second consecutive trophyless season.
Mourinho's Plan for Real Madrid
Mourinho has submitted a report to the club outlining the strengths and weaknesses in the squad, calling for four new signings this summer. According to reports, he wants at least one centre-half, one full-back, and two central midfielders. Strengthening the midfield is a vital priority, with a defensive midfielder and a creative midfielder needed to restore balance.
Tchouameni has been a key figure at Real Madrid, effectively replacing Casemiro after his move to Manchester United in 2023, and has also offered cover in other positions. However, Mourinho wants a midfielder capable of competing with the France international and providing additional depth. The club has failed to truly replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the middle of the park, making a more creative midfielder a priority for Mourinho.
Manchester United's Midfield Rebuild
Manchester United have also made rebuilding their midfield their most urgent business. With Casemiro moving on, the club want at least two new options in the middle of the park, and possibly three if Manuel Ugarte also departs. United regard Tchouameni as a dream signing but are fully aware of how highly he is valued in the Spanish capital.
Elliot Anderson is another top target, with Manchester City also interested in signing the Nottingham Forest midfielder. Reports in recent days suggest United's focus has shifted to Sandro Tonali and Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with a deal for the latter on the brink of being agreed.
As the summer transfer window approaches, both Real Madrid and Manchester United are poised for significant midfield reinforcements, with Mourinho and United's hierarchy each aiming to reshape their squads for the challenges ahead.
