London-Based Footballers Earn Wales Call-Ups for Pivotal World Cup Play-Offs
Wales national team manager Craig Bellamy has unveiled his squad for the critical World Cup qualifying play-offs, featuring several key players from London clubs. The Dragons secured second place in their qualifying group behind Belgium, earning a spot in the play-offs where they will face Bosnia and Herzegovina at Cardiff City Stadium on March 26.
Path to World Cup Qualification
A victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina would see Wales host the winner of the Italy versus Northern Ireland semi-final in the play-off final. The triumphant team from that final will secure a coveted place in the 2026 World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Wales are aiming for consecutive World Cup qualifications after ending a 64-year drought by reaching the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Bosnia and Herzegovina present a formidable challenge, having lost only once during their qualifying campaign, although they competed in a theoretically easier group than Wales, which was topped by Austria.
London Club Representatives in the Squad
Bellamy's selection includes notable London-based talents: Rhys Norrington-Davies, currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers from Sheffield United; Harry Wilson of Fulham; and Brennan Johnson from Crystal Palace. Tottenham Hotspur's Ben Davies is unavailable due to ankle surgery, with his recovery expected to extend into April.
Wales will rely heavily on Wilson's exceptional form, as the Fulham winger scored a hat-trick in his last international appearance during a 7-1 rout of North Macedonia.
