Liverpool Legend Sounds Alarm Over Bukayo Saka's Concerning Form

Liverpool icon Steve Nicol has voiced serious concerns about Bukayo Saka's recent performances following Arsenal's dramatic late victory over Everton. The Gunners secured a crucial 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium, but Saka's subdued display has raised eyebrows among football pundits.

Teenage Sensation Steals the Show

While Arsenal appeared destined for a frustrating goalless draw against Everton, 16-year-old substitute Max Dowman emerged as the unlikely hero. The teenage prodigy first contributed to Viktor Gyokeres' opening goal before sealing the victory with an injury-time strike, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

This dramatic late intervention propelled Arsenal to a commanding ten-point lead over title rivals Manchester City, who could only manage a 1-1 draw against West Ham later that same day.

Saka's Concerning Dip in Form

Bukayo Saka's recent performances have become a growing concern for Arsenal supporters and analysts alike. The England international has managed just two goals since early December and was notably upstaged by the teenage Dowman during the Everton encounter.

Saka's struggles continued during Arsenal's Champions League knockout match against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, where he was substituted during the game.

"Arsenal's front-three today... I mean again Bukayo Saka is struggling, he's absolutely struggling for form," Steve Nicol declared during his analysis on ESPN. The Liverpool legend's comments highlight the growing scrutiny surrounding Saka's performances.

Potential Causes for Concern

Former Liverpool forward Don Hutchison has speculated about potential reasons behind Saka's dip in form. Hutchison questioned whether the 24-year-old might be "shattered" due to the immense volume of football he has played at such a young age, or whether "over-coaching" might be affecting his natural game.

"Mikel Arteta said he had a gut feeling about Max Dowman and he's basically saying he's coached the life out of Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke and this kid hasn't had any coaching yet so he just went out there and played," Hutchison explained.

He elaborated further: "Just on Bukayo Saka, he's been out of form and this kid at 24 has played over 300 games. So you just start to wonder, with a few injuries along the way, is he feeling a little bit shattered or is it over-coaching because Max Dowman came on and just lit up the place, he was magnificent."

Arteta Celebrates Special Night

Despite concerns about Saka, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was understandably delighted with his team's dramatic victory. The Spanish coach praised both the team's resilience and Dowman's extraordinary impact.

"It was amazing, it was one of those moments that I think we're going to remember for a long, long time," Arteta beamed. "I really enjoyed the relentless desire of the team, action by action, to put everything that we had in to earn the right to win the game."

Arteta continued: "And obviously, the manner in which it happened in the last few minutes, all the celebration, the atmosphere, the energy, the goal from Max, it made it such a special night. For many years, we will remember that we were at the Emirates that night when that 16-year-old kid scored in such an important game when we were trying to win the title."

The Arsenal manager reserved special praise for Dowman's character: "To achieve what he's done in the context of the game which he's done it in as well, I think it makes it even more special. I'm really happy for him. I think he deserves it. His family, and all the people at Hale End have raised him in such an incredible way. One thing is to raise a talent, another thing is to raise a person with such a personality and charisma to play a game with that stature in the manner that he's done it."

As Arsenal continue their Premier League title charge, all eyes will be on whether Bukayo Saka can rediscover his best form or whether Max Dowman's emergence signals a potential changing of the guard at the Emirates Stadium.
