Former Arsenal Star Anders Limpar Makes Bold Everton Prediction
Former Arsenal and Everton winger Anders Limpar has expressed confidence that David Moyes' Everton side are capable of causing a major upset in Saturday's pivotal Premier League match against Arsenal. The Gunners, coming off a 1-1 Champions League draw with Bayer Leverkusen, have a chance to extend their lead over Manchester City to 10 points, with City facing West Ham in a later kick-off.
Arsenal's Title Charge and Everton's Steady Rise
Mikel Arteta's resilient Arsenal team have bounced back from a disappointing draw against Wolves, securing three consecutive Premier League victories to reignite their title ambitions. Meanwhile, Everton have enjoyed a solid campaign under David Moyes, quietly climbing to eighth place and posing a threat to European qualification spots. Back-to-back wins over Burnley and Newcastle have restored confidence after setbacks against Manchester United and Bournemouth.
Despite Everton's poor historical record at Arsenal, Limpar insists they can disrupt the north London club's season. 'Everton have been so good away from home this season,' he told FruityKing. 'They actually beat Aston Villa away, and we've had a great run of games without conceding a goal, so why can't they win at Arsenal?'
Limpar's Tactical Insights for Everton
Limpar emphasized that Everton must adopt an aggressive approach rather than sitting back. 'Arsenal away is the one game that every team in the Premier League doesn't want to play this season,' he said. 'It's up to Arsenal whether Everton can cause them problems. They will have to take their chances and score goals because Arsenal will dominate possession with players like Bukayo Saka needing to perform.'
He suggested specific strategies, such as utilizing players like Beto or Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to exploit set-pieces like corners. 'Can Everton get some possession in Arsenal's half? Over 90 minutes, you'll be chasing the ball, so the game plan should be to have a go. If you played this game 10 times, Arsenal would probably win eight. Everton can't sit back and let Arsenal play. Go and have a go!'
Limpar's Reflections on His Arsenal Career and Gyokeres' Adaptation
Limpar joined Arsenal in 1990 from Cremonese as a relative unknown and made an immediate impact, contributing to a title-winning campaign under George Graham where the team lost only once. In contrast, he discussed his compatriot Viktor Gyokeres' struggles to adapt to English football. 'I think while there have been some good moments from Viktor Gyokeres, he could have been slightly better,' Limpar assessed. 'Over 28 or 30 games, he hasn't fully integrated into the team's system.'
He noted Gyokeres' gradual adjustment to the Premier League's pace, highlighting moments of brilliance but also inconsistencies. 'He's been tremendous in a couple of games, but at times, the ball bounces off him. He needs to improve his ball control and receiving skills. I can't demand more effort; we've seen impact in recent games, but in others, he's lacked it, and teammates haven't passed to him when he makes runs. The whole team needs to improve.'
Limpar urged patience, arguing against premature calls to sell Gyokeres. 'It takes time for a player to fit into a team. Not many can slot in immediately, but over the last couple of games, you can see the true Viktor emerge. As they play more together, they'll find each other better. It's too soon to say Arsenal need to sell him or bring in another striker.'
