Emile Heskey has urged Liverpool to hijack Arsenal's move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, describing the potential transfer as a 'statement signing' for new manager Andoni Iraola. The former Liverpool striker believes the 23-year-old Frenchman would bring the pace and directness that the club has lacked since the departures of Sadio Mané and the injury struggles of Luis Díaz.
Barcola's standout season at PSG
Barcola was a key figure for Luis Enrique's side last season, scoring 13 goals across all competitions as PSG secured both Ligue 1 and the Champions League titles. Despite his contributions, the winger grew unhappy with reduced game time, particularly after being named on the bench for the Champions League final win over Arsenal. His contract runs until 2028, but he is reportedly not keen on extending it.
Currently at the World Cup with France, Barcola is attracting interest from several top clubs. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a known admirer and has been considering a move alongside their pursuit of Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers. However, Liverpool are also in the race as they look to strengthen their wide options following Mohamed Salah's departure.
Heskey's endorsement and valuation
'Signing Bradley Barcola would be an amazing coup for Liverpool because he provides the pace and directness we've been missing on the left wing,' Heskey told Boyle Sports. 'We've been spoiled with Sadio Mané and Luis Díaz, and now we need Barcola to get the fans off their seats again. Liverpool looked to have missed out on Yan Diomande to PSG, but that could open the door to Barcola leaving – it would be a statement signing for Andoni Iraola that's for sure.'
However, prising Barcola away from PSG will be challenging. The European champions are in no rush to sell despite the player's grievances, and they value him at more than the £116 million Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson. PSG have already sold Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan for €74 million (£63.7m) and plan to cash in on Lee Kang-in and Randal Kolo Muani this summer.
Heskey also tips Rashford for Arsenal
In the same interview, Heskey urged Arsenal to explore a move for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, believing the 28-year-old England winger would be a significant upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli. 'I think Marcus Rashford needs to move on, I don't think he's staying at Manchester United,' Heskey said. 'I could see him thriving at Arsenal. I'm not a big fan of Gabriel Martinelli, I think Marcus is a lot better.'
Rashford spent part of last season on loan at Aston Villa, and Heskey expects a permanent move might be on the cards, though he also mentioned Barcelona as a past possibility that has faded. The transfer window remains open, and both Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to be active as they reshape their squads.
