England rounded off their preparations for their opening match of the World Cup in style with a 6-0 win over Miami FC in a behind-closed-doors warm-up game. The Three Lions squad has spent the last 10 days in Florida, getting to grips with the heat and humidity in games against New Zealand and Costa Rica.
Thomas Tuchel's side picked up wins in both without conceding ahead of their opening Group L match against Croatia on Wednesday 17 June in Dallas. Before that, there was time for one more practice match with England taking on local side Miami FC, who play in the second tier of American football.
England ran out 6-0 winners, scoring five of those goals in the second-half. The Daily Mail report Ivan Toney was the man of the evening, scoring three times including a 'worldie' from long range. Jordan Henderson, Ethan Nwaneri and Rio Ngumoha were also on the score sheet – the last action of the summer for the latter two who were called in to bolster the numbers in training before the start of the tournament.
Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham were among those not involved after playing their part in the 3-0 win over Costa Rica on Wednesday. Perhaps most importantly for Tuchel, his side emerged from the game with no fresh injury problems.
Tuchel provides Saka update
The German coach has a fully fit squad to choose from although he did reveal this week Bukayo Saka is still feeling the effects of an Achilles injury that saw him miss six games for Arsenal in April.
'We have to take care with Bukayo who had an injury in the March camp and carried it through to the club campaign,' the England head coach said in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday evening. 'He made himself available and was brilliant. He was managed in between matches – we are also building him up. That continues at the moment.'
With no fresh injury concerns, Tuchel now has a full-strength squad to select from for the Croatia clash, with the exception of Saka's ongoing management. The Three Lions will look to carry their impressive form into the tournament opener.
