Emmerdale's Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) was left stunned after discovering that her husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) attempted to cheat on her with ex Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) while she was behind bars. The farmer spent months in prison earlier this year after being framed by Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) for modern slavery crimes following Celia Daniels' (Jaye Griffiths) reign of terror.
Moira secured her release thanks to Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), who had unknowingly been involved in her ordeal. However, before her unexpected freedom, Cain struggled without his wife. The mechanic had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and, fearing the impact of surgery, turned to alcohol and refused the operation. Charity offered advice, but Cain, overwhelmed by the prospect of impotence and incontinence and feeling like he was failing his family, hit self-destruct and propositioned her.
He soon realized his mistake and was overjoyed when Moira was released. Subsequent scenes showed him undergoing surgery. In the weeks since, Cain has struggled with side effects like incontinence but, after advice from Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), ordered leak-proof underwear online.
On Tuesday's (June 16) episode, Cain learned the results of his operation. To his devastation, the consultant revealed that while the surgery was successful, she suspects the cancer has spread, requiring further tests. If confirmed, Cain will need radiotherapy, with possible permanent impotence and incontinence. The news left both him and Moira reeling. When Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) sensed the tension, Cain lashed out and stormed out after Isaac witnessed his outburst.
Moira sought advice from Charity, who accidentally revealed Cain's proposition before his surgery. Furious, Moira confronted Cain, who dismissed her, saying it wasn't the right time. Moira retorted that she didn't care if it was insensitive, telling him he's 'not even half' the man she thought he was, and stormed off. Is this the end for Moira and Cain, or can they overcome this together?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 or streams from 7am on ITVX and YouTube.
