Former Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole has issued a stark warning to Premier League leaders Arsenal, suggesting the club could face a battle to retain several key squad members this summer.
Depth Creates Selection Headache for Arteta
Cole's comments come as Mikel Arteta's side enjoys a phenomenal season, sitting top of the Premier League and Champions League while also advancing in the Carabao Cup. A significant summer spending spree of around £250 million has created immense competition for places at the Emirates Stadium.
New signings like Noni Madueke and Piero Hincapie have provided excellent options, allowing stars such as Bukayo Saka to be rested. However, this depth has left other high-profile names on the sidelines. Notably, Eberechi Eze, a £67 million arrival from Crystal Palace, has been an unused substitute in five of the last six matches, starting just once since being substituted at half-time against Aston Villa in December.

The increased competition is also impacting homegrown talent and established defenders. Promising academy products Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have seen their roles diminish. Cole, speaking to Paddy Power, linked his old club Chelsea's need for experience with potential availability at Arsenal. "You need seasoned winners in the side," Cole stated. "I'd be looking at the PSG squad, which I think is bloated. Players who understand winning and know how and what it means to win."
He then turned his attention directly to the Gunners: "I don't think Arsenal are going to be able to keep up with all their players, certain players there will be available at the end of the season."

This warning appears to be more than just speculation, with early transfer links already emerging. Everton have been credited with an ambitious interest in Ben White during the current January window, while Bournemouth are known admirers of young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri.
