Beckham Backs Amorim's Man Utd Progress After Palace Comeback
Beckham on Amorim's Man Utd: 'Signs of Turnaround'

Beckham's Cautious Optimism for United's Future

Manchester United legend David Beckham has expressed cautious optimism about the team's direction under manager Ruben Amorim, following their comeback victory against Crystal Palace. Speaking from the Qatar Grand Prix, Beckham acknowledged positive signs while emphasising there's still considerable work ahead for the Red Devils.

Selhurst Park Turnaround Secures Vital Points

The comments came after Manchester United secured a hard-fought 2-1 win at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon. The match saw a concerning first-half performance where Jean-Phillipe Mateta put Crystal Palace ahead from the penalty spot, giving the Eagles a deserved lead at half-time.

The game turned dramatically after the break, with second-half goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount completing the comeback. This victory was particularly important following United's woeful home defeat to Everton just days earlier on Monday night.

Manager and Legend Align on Gradual Progress

Beckham told Sky Sports: 'I think there's signs of the manager turning things around. He's tweaked a few things and we are coming into a few better results but there's still a long way to go and there's still a few games that we're not playing as we all like to see.'

'But I think we've got a good manager there and he's changing things slowly,' added the former England captain, highlighting the gradual nature of United's improvement under the Portuguese manager.

Amorim himself acknowledged the team's first-half struggles, stating they 'cannot play like that in the Premier League'. He praised his team's second-half response, noting: 'We increased our pace and intensity. I had a feeling, we had the feeling, that if we scored one goal, this is going to change completely.'

The manager also highlighted his satisfaction with how the team controlled the game after taking the lead, maintaining possession in Palace's half rather than sitting back defensively.

The crucial three points saw Manchester United climb to seventh in the Premier League table, remaining just three points off the top four after Aston Villa's victory over Wolves on the same afternoon.

During his interview, Beckham also offered thoughts on England's World Cup prospects under Thomas Tuchel, praising captain Harry Kane's form and expressing confidence in the manager's ability to select the right squad for success.
