Ruben Amorim is poised to return to management after agreeing to become Milan’s head coach. The move will provide Manchester United with significant financial relief regarding his compensation package, following his dismissal in January.
Amorim to Replace Allegri at San Siro
Amorim will succeed Massimiliano Allegri at Milan after accepting a two-year contract, with an option for a third season. He will be tasked with revitalizing the club after they finished fifth in Serie A and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Once Amorim is back in work, United will no longer be liable to pay the full £16.7 million compensation package that the 41-year-old and his coaching staff were due under the severance deal.
Milan Overhaul Underway
Milan cleared out several senior staff members after their Champions League failure. Sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada departed alongside Allegri.
Nottingham Forest’s head of recruitment, Pedro Ferreira, is being targeted to join his Portuguese compatriot Amorim at Milan as part of a major restructuring.
United's Financial Boost from Amazon Documentary
United’s finances have been further bolstered by the announcement that they will feature in an Amazon All or Nothing documentary next season. Negotiations were carried out during Amorim’s tenure, but it was decided then that it was not the right time to grant filmmakers access, following the examples of Manchester City and Tottenham.
The club will receive an access fee larger than any paid for previous documentaries in the genre. Cameras will be present from the start of pre-season, focusing on the men’s team under Michael Carrick, while also covering the women’s and academy setups.
“Now is the right time to open our doors, so that for the first time our fans around the world can see behind the scenes of a club which means so much to so many people,” said Manchester United chief communications officer Toby Craig.
