Br3wery, an independent café-bar in Beckenham, has submitted a planning application to Bromley Council to extend its premises at 255 Beckenham Road with additional seating and improved food preparation facilities.
Extension details and floorspace increase
The proposed extension would measure approximately 28 square metres, increasing the unit's total floorspace from 77 square metres to 105 square metres. It would be constructed on an underused hard-standing area behind the business.
The full-width extension would feature timber cladding, a flat roof, and skylights intended to increase natural light inside the premises. Planners state the extra space would allow Br3wery to enhance its food preparation facilities, add customer seating, and make the business more functional.
Employment and community impact
Br3wery currently employs the equivalent of around three full-time workers and seven part-time staff members. If the expansion is approved, employment is expected to rise to approximately four full-time equivalent roles and nine part-time positions.
The applicant argues the plans would support the growth of an established independent hospitality business, create additional employment, and help strengthen activity along the local high street. The premises include commercial accommodation at ground and basement levels, with homes on the first and second floors.
Planning considerations and timeline
Planning documents argue the extension would have little effect on the street scene because it would sit entirely behind the building. The application follows an earlier proposal that was withdrawn and resubmitted after further documentation was requested.
If permission is granted, work is expected to begin in January 2027 and be completed by April 2027.
