A 37-year-old entrepreneur has revealed how the sale of his business allowed him to buy a £1,000,000 home in Brighton outright, freeing him from mortgage payments.
From London Renter to Brighton Homeowner
Biro Florin, originally from Romania, had long dreamed of owning his own home after moving from London to Brighton. Initially renting a flat in the town centre with his partner, his ambition became a reality in April 2023 when he completed the purchase of a three-bedroom townhouse.
The pivotal moment came when Florin and his partner sold their B2B tech business. This provided the capital to buy the property in the Preston Park neighbourhood for the full asking price in cash, making their offer particularly attractive in a competitive market.
A Mortgage-Free Lifestyle with Bespoke Rooms
Now living without a mortgage, Florin's monthly outgoings are around £1,500 for bills. The couple has transformed the Victorian property to suit their work-from-home lifestyle, repurposing bedrooms into functional spaces.
The first floor now houses an office, a professional podcast studio, and a cinema room, with the actual bedrooms located on the second floor. Florin hosts the 'Misfit Founders' podcast from his studio, which is equipped with high-end filming equipment comparable to that used by Netflix.
The Key to a Successful Purchase
Florin credits a property search agent with being instrumental in finding the right home and navigating the buying process. The agent arranged multiple viewings and connected the first-time buyers with trusted solicitors and assessors.
The chosen property, updated in 2018 by its previous owners who were interior decorators, stood out for its high-end finishes and location. Its modernised condition meant the couple faced no immediate renovation issues.
For Florin, buying outright offered liberation from rental restrictions, allowing the couple to get a second puppy and decorate freely. They plan to stay in the home for at least the next decade, potentially considering a move to the countryside or abroad later in life.
