Family tribute to teen killed in Enfield e-bike crash

The family of Ishmael Sankoh, a 17-year-old who was killed in an Enfield crash earlier this month, have paid tribute to their “smart and kind” son. Ishmael was riding his e-bike on Elsinge Road shortly before 11pm on Sunday, October 4, when he was struck by a suspected drink driver.

Police and paramedics attended the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink. He has since been released while the police investigation continues.

Family's heartfelt tribute to Ishmael

In a statement, Ishmael's family said: “It’s hard to find the words to express the pain of losing you, Ishmael. You were more than a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin and a friend; you were a precious part of our family, and your presence brought something special into all our lives.”

“Although our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the memories, the laughter, the love and the moments we were blessed to share with you. We wish we had more time, more conversations and more laughter.”

“Rest peacefully, our beloved Ishmael. You were loved beyond words and will never, ever be forgotten. We will carry your name, your smile and your memory with us always. Until we meet again, may your soul rest in eternal peace.”

Police appeal for witnesses and footage

Detective Inspector Simon Ager, from the Metropolitan Police Service, said: “Our thoughts remain with Ishmael’s family and loved ones following his tragic death. The loss of someone so young in these circumstances is devastating, and we recognise the profound impact this will have on all those who knew and cared for him.”

“Our investigation remains ongoing and we are working to establish the full circumstances of the collision. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage from the area at around the time of the incident.”

Anyone with information that may help police is asked to call 101 quoting CD 7294/4OCT. The investigation continues, and police are urging witnesses to come forward.
