Mayhew seeks homes for greyhound Hero and cat Comet

Mayhew, the animal welfare charity serving Hampstead and Highgate, is looking for loving homes for two of its residents: Hero, a four-year-old retired racing greyhound, and Comet, a five-year-old cat who has overcome abandonment. Both animals are ready for adoption and come with support from the charity, including four weeks of free pet insurance for dogs.

Hero: A retired racing greyhound seeking a cosy home

Hero is described by Mayhew as an affectionate, friendly, and charming four-year-old greyhound who has left his racing career behind. The charity notes that he adores spending time with people and is happiest heading out on adventures. He is also a food enthusiast, always up for a treat if one is offered.

After his racing days, Hero is looking for a comfortable, cosy home where he can become a much-loved family member. Mayhew suggests he would make the perfect companion for any greyhound lover. Potential adopters should note that Hero can live in a flat, provided there is access to a private garden. He can also live with dog-savvy, junior school-age children, as long as they give him space when he needs it.

Hero has been microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, health-checked, and behaviourally assessed. Every dog adopted from Mayhew goes home with four weeks of free pet insurance. To find out more about Hero or to start the adoption process, visit themayhew.org/dogs/hero/.

Comet: A gentle cat ready to shine after a difficult start

Comet is a five-year-old male cat who has been on quite a journey, according to Mayhew. Abandoned, he is described as a gentle little soul who, with some tender loving care, is doing much better now and is ready to shine. He can get worried at times and needs space to get to know new people, but once he has figured you out, he will greet you with sweet little meows and lots of head bumps.

Comet enjoys playing and living life as a cat should, whether chasing a string or batting around his toys. However, he has somewhat reduced vision, which can make things a little harder for him. He would like a quiet, patient, all-adult home that can let him find his paws in his own time. He also needs access to a garden.

His foster carer said: “Every day Comet becomes a little more relaxed, a little more playful. He is really lovely and has bonded strongly with me. He is a bit talkative, but that may change as he becomes more confident. He is very gentle, with no aggression at all. He will take a bit of time to get used to his new parent(s), but we believe he will be a really lovely, engaging cat if someone is willing to put in the time with him.”

How to adopt from Mayhew

Mayhew encourages potential adopters to consider giving Hero or Comet a forever home. For more details on Comet, visit themayhew.org/cats/comet/. The charity also invites readers to get involved with the news by sending their news and photos.
