Metro has partnered with Starhotels Collezione to offer one reader and a companion a two-night stay at The Gore London, a historic boutique hotel in South Kensington, worth £900. The prize includes a three-course dinner at the hotel's restaurant 190 Queen's Gate and a hot breakfast each morning.
Historic hotel with Victorian charm
Built in 1892 to house guests visiting the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, The Gore London retains its Victorian heritage with carved wood panelling, rich fabrics, and original artworks. The hotel features 50 uniquely decorated bedrooms, and the winner will stay in a Deluxe room with an oak-carved four-poster or half-tester bed, antique furnishings, and a bathroom with a grand bathtub, Penhaligon's toiletries, and Frette linen dressing gowns.
Cultural icons and rock 'n' roll history
Located in South Kensington, the hotel is a 10-minute walk from Gloucester Road or South Kensington Tube stations, near the Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park, and museums such as the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, and V&A. The Gore itself is a cultural landmark: the Judy Garland Suite features a gilt bed commissioned by the star, and the hotel was the site of the Rolling Stones' 1968 Elizabethan-themed feast for the album Beggars Banquet, which ended in a famous food fight.
Food and drink
Head Chef Frederick Forster, a former Roux Scholar and National Chef of the Year 2011, leads the restaurant 190 Queen's Gate, offering modern British dishes like Roasted Venison and Dorset Lamb Rump. The winner will enjoy a three-course dinner with a glass of wine per person and a full breakfast. Bar 190 is popular for pre-show drinks and live music.
