Rapist jailed for 14 years after brutal attack and JD Sports theft attempt
Rapist jailed for attack and JD Sports theft attempt

A dangerous rapist who subjected a woman to a horrific attack before stealing her bank card and attempting to buy a tracksuit from JD Sports has been handed a lengthy prison sentence.

A Brutal Assault and Theft

Kieran Naylor, 40, met his victim at a petrol station in the early hours of December 9, 2024. He invited her back to his home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, where the situation turned violently. Manchester Crown Court heard that Naylor attacked the woman, kicking and stamping on her with such force that she sustained a broken femur and wrist.

Prosecutor Stephen Swift told the court: ‘As a consequence of the assault, she was unable to stand, and she was in significant pain. She did ask the defendant to call an ambulance, and he laughed.’ The woman managed to drag herself towards the front door on her elbows, but Naylor pulled her back into the property and proceeded to rape her for a second time.

The Fight for Survival and Justice

Due to the severity of her injuries, the woman fell unconscious. While she was incapacitated, Naylor stole her bank card. He first used it to buy cigarettes and alcohol, and then made an unsuccessful attempt to purchase a tracksuit from JD Sports.

When she regained consciousness, the victim crawled to the door once more and called for help. A member of the public found her and immediately contacted the emergency services. Naylor was arrested at the scene. Tragically, the woman died of natural causes in May of this year, before she could see her attacker brought to justice.

A Legacy of Pain and a Lengthy Sentence

In powerful statements to the court, the victim's daughters described the profound impact the attack had on their mother's life. One daughter said, ‘After this happened, my mum’s confidence and sense of safety completely changed. She became fearful of going out alone... Seeing her lose that spark was devastating.’

The other daughter added, ‘It was heartbreaking to see her trust in people and her mental state decline.’

The court heard that Naylor had 57 previous convictions for 100 offences, including theft and violence. Despite mitigation citing a traumatic childhood and addictions, Recorder Sophie Cartwright emphasised the high risk he poses to women.

Naylor was convicted of two counts of rape, one count of false imprisonment, one count of grievous bodily harm, and theft. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison with an extended licence of two years, placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and given an indefinite restraining order banning contact with the victim's daughters.

DC Lucy Birch of Bolton CID stated: ‘This was a shocking and deeply disturbing crime. Naylor is a dangerous individual who is rightly behind bars for a long time. Her courage has helped protect other women from harm.’
