Range Rover driver kills delivery driver in 68mph hit and run

Mayan Hirani, 26, of Grange Crescent, Chigwell, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He struck Mohammed Furuk Ahmed, a food delivery driver, while driving at 68mph in a 30mph zone in Ilford, east London, on March 16, 2024.

Victim died from catastrophic injuries

Mr Ahmed was crossing the road to make a delivery when Hirani's Range Rover hit him. He suffered catastrophic injuries and died in hospital the next day. Hirani fled the scene but was tracked down using CCTV, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), and investigative work.

Driver confessed and sentenced

Hirani later confessed to the crime. Detective Constable Tristan Hunter, who led the investigation, said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Ahmed’s family and loved ones, who continue to live with the devastating consequences of his death. While no sentence can undo the pain caused by Mr Ahmed’s passing, I hope this outcome provides some measure of justice for his family and demonstrates our commitment to holding dangerous drivers accountable."
