The family of a young father who was murdered in what they describe as "cold blood" have expressed their profound devastation following his tragic death. Jordan Gray, aged 26, was shot dead in his own home in Shields Court, located in the town of Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Sunday 14 December.
Police Investigation Underway
Sky News has learned that a shotgun was used in the fatal attack, marking this as a particularly violent crime. Mr Gray's body was discovered the following day, prompting an extensive investigation by Police Scotland. Authorities have since gathered more than 1,200 hours of CCTV footage and conducted thorough door-to-door enquiries in their pursuit of the perpetrator.
Family's Heartfelt Appeal
At a press conference held on Tuesday, Mr Gray's mother, Lynn Gray, and stepfather, Michael Groome, made an emotional appeal for anyone with information to come forward. Mr Groome stated, "We are here today to appeal for any information leading to finding out who murdered our son in cold blood." He added, "The outpouring of love we have had since Jordan's death is testament to the fact that he was a well-liked young man and, yet, someone stole him from us."
The family emphasised their grief, with Mr Groome noting, "We are devastated by our loss. His sisters and wee brother are struggling to understand how someone could do this to their big brother." He also highlighted the impact on Mr Gray's child, saying, "Jordan's baby will have to grow up without knowing how much his dad loved him."
Ongoing Police Efforts
Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry, the senior investigating officer, described the crime as "a really shocking crime, the murder of a young man in his own home." He assured the public that police are doing everything possible to trace those responsible, including ongoing forensic analysis and other investigative measures not visible to the public.
Investigating officers are particularly keen to identify a person seen in Shields Court around 10.30pm on 14 December, described as wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers. DSI Hendry urged, "If you know who this was, or think the description matches you, please come forward even if it's just so we can eliminate you from our enquiries."
