A Festive Season Shattered by Brutal Violence

A 78-year-old grandmother, on the cusp of embarking on a Christmas shopping trip with her daughter, was subjected to a horrific and fatal attack in her own home. June Henty was stabbed more than 100 times by her granddaughter's husband, Adam Wright, 39, in a frenzied assault that would ultimately claim her life months later.

The Attack and Its Aftermath

The tragedy unfolded on 23 December 2023 in Bishop’s Waltham. Wright stormed into Mrs Henty's home unannounced and demanded money. When the kind-hearted grandmother refused, he launched a vicious attack, slashing at her head, face, and neck with a knife.

Mrs Henty was discovered by her distraught family and rushed to hospital. She underwent major surgery and spent a gruelling 90 days in the Intensive Care Unit, fighting for her life. Despite her immense bravery and a six-month struggle, June Henty died on 14 June 2024. A postmortem examination confirmed her death was a direct result of the catastrophic knife wounds.

A Family's Heartbreak and a Killer's Admission

In a final act of incredible strength, June Henty managed to name Adam Wright as her attacker before she died. This crucial information led to a manhunt and Wright's subsequent arrest.

Wright had initially pleaded guilty to attempted murder. However, following Mrs Henty's death, the Crown Prosecution Service upgraded the charge to murder, which he ultimately admitted. He confessed that he had intended to kill her.

At Winchester Crown Court, it was revealed that Wright had been drinking and taking drugs the night before the murderous assault. On Thursday, 27 November 2025, Mr Justice Jacobs sentenced Adam Wright to life in prison.

Statements from Investigators and Family

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Tim Judd, stated: "This result comes from the tragic loss of June Henty. She had done nothing to deserve the abhorrent violence she endured that morning... Thanks to her we were able to identify her attacker."

Desmond Duffy, from the Crown Prosecution Service, emphasised the senselessness of the crime: "This was a truly horrific and senseless act of violence against a much-loved family member. The sheer brutality is beyond comprehension, and Wright’s alcohol and drug consumption offers no justification."

June Henty's grieving family paid a moving tribute to their matriarch, describing her as their "beautiful mum" and a "kind and loving lady who always put her family first." They said, "She was our world and we were hers. We have lost the heart of our family." While acknowledging the life sentence, they poignantly added that "it will never be enough."
