Fundraiser Launched for Mother Stabbed in Hayes
A fundraiser has been established for 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur, who was fatally stabbed while sleeping beside her young baby and husband in Hayes. The attack occurred on Sunday, July 12, and is alleged to be unprovoked.
Details of the Attack
Kirandeep Kaur, originally from Punjab, India, had come to the UK to study. She was asleep in bed with her husband and baby when a man allegedly entered their home and stabbed her. The suspect, Daniel Sean James, is alleged to have then jumped out of a window, breaking both ankles, before being detained by police nearby, the Old Bailey was told.
Before the attack, James allegedly walked through a playing field in Hayes dressed in all black and carrying a large knife. He was captured on CCTV and doorbell cameras approaching three different addresses before stabbing a man in his 20s in the back, according to claims.
Victim and Community Response
Ms Kaur suffered a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 8.26am. The Old Bailey heard that neither the victims nor James knew each other. A fundraiser has been set up by the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall, a Sikh temple in Southall, to support her family.
On the fundraiser, it wrote: "Like many international students, Kirandeep’s journey was made possible through enormous sacrifices by her family, who borrowed money and reportedly sold agricultural land to fund her education and give her the opportunity to establish a new life."
"Kirandeep’s sudden death has left her young baby without a mother, and her family in India devastated, burdened by grief and the significant debts incurred to support her future. Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall is bringing the local community together to offer practical and financial assistance during this unimaginable time."
Use of Funds
The funds raised will help with funeral arrangements and the repatriation of Kirandeep to India, ease the financial burden on her family, assist with outstanding loans, and provide vital support towards the care and future of her four-month-old baby.
"As a community, we cannot take away the family’s pain, but we can stand beside them and ensure they do not face the financial consequences of this tragedy alone. Every contribution, however large or small, will make a meaningful difference," the fundraiser added.
Legal Proceedings
A plea hearing for James will take place on October 1, and a provisional three-week trial is scheduled for April 5 next year. He has been remanded into custody.
