Joel Marshall found unconscious after teens’ revenge plot
EastEnders villain Joel Marshall (Max Murray) was left fighting for his life in Wednesday’s (July 22) episode after a revenge attack by local teens took a dark turn. The character, who horrified Walford residents with his misogynistic views and criminal actions, was discovered unconscious and alone, tied to a fence and brutally assaulted.
Earlier this year, Joel was jailed for attacking his stepmother Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) and for recording a sexual encounter with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) without her consent, later distributing the footage online. He returned to Walford last week after his release, when his mother Cleo (Mazz Murray) brought him to Ross’s (Alex Walkinshaw) doorstep, claiming she could no longer care for him.
Teens take matters into their own hands
Vicki and Avani were devastated by Joel’s return, with Avani insisting he should not be allowed near them. Despite Ross’s decision to keep Joel at the B&B, the teens—including Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd), Avani, Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega), Nugget (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury), Lily (Lilia Turner), Ricky (Frankie Day), and Barney (Lewis Bridgeman)—plotted revenge. They invited Joel to a bogus end-of-term party, where they tied him to a fence, doused him with beer, and filmed the humiliation.
The teens left Joel locked up for 45 minutes, but Will Mitchell (Freddie Phillips) and Barney felt the prank had gone too far and urged the others to check on him. When they returned, they found Joel had been untied and severely attacked, leaving his fate uncertain.
Who attacked Joel?
The episode ends with Joel unconscious and alone, raising questions about whether he will survive and who is responsible for the brutal assault. The attack appears to have been carried out by an unknown assailant, separate from the teens’ initial prank.
