Derbyshire Police confirmed on Monday that detectives have been granted until Tuesday evening to continue their interrogation of the suspect. The individual was arrested just seven minutes after the Saturday evening incident occurred in the Friar Gate area of Derby. According to Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred, Derby's police lead, the suspect was safely detained in Station Approach, near the bridge crossing toward Pride Park stadium.
The suspect, who resides in Derby and has lived in the United Kingdom for several years, originally hails from India. Police emphasize that they believe this to be an isolated incident with no broader threat to public safety, though counter-terrorism officers are participating in the investigation as standard procedure for incidents of this nature.
Victim Information and Incident Aftermath
Seven individuals—comprising four men and three women aged between 36 and 52—were transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a black Suzuki Swift around 9:30 PM. Three of these victims have since been discharged from medical care, while others continue to receive treatment.
Forensic teams have been actively processing the scene, where evidence including shoes and blankets remained visible. Police have established a cordon in the vicinity as the investigation progresses. Authorities are still examining potential motives behind the incident and have issued a public appeal for anyone with footage of the event to come forward.
