Corrie star marks 10 years since Kylie Platt's death

Jack P Shepherd, known for his role as David Platt on Coronation Street, recently marked the ten-year anniversary of the death of his character's wife, Kylie Platt, played by Paula Lane. Shepherd posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos and videos on Instagram, reflecting on the heartbreaking storyline that aired in 2016.

Behind-the-Scenes Tribute

In his post, Shepherd wrote: '10 years ago we said goodbye to Kylie Platt. Here's some behind the scenes pictures and vids, it was a great story & the most challenging story I've played ?forever missed.' The tribute included moments from the harrowing scenes where Kylie, stabbed by villain Clayton (Callum Harrison) while protecting her friend Gemma Winter (Dolly Rose Campbell), died in David's arms.

Shepherd's 26-year tenure on the soap has included many dramatic storylines, such as surviving serial killer Richard Hillman, pushing his mother Gail down the stairs, struggling with epilepsy, and putting his brother Nick in a coma. Despite this, he described Kylie's death as one of the most challenging.

Fan and Co-Star Reactions

Fans flooded the comments with praise. One wrote: 'Two actors with a connection and incredible focus. Joined at the hip in a storyline that created iconic scenes to say goodbye to Kylie Platt. A moment on the cobbled street that will always be remembered.' Another fan admitted that David and Kylie's love story remains unmatched, even compared to David's current marriage to Shona Platt.

Shepherd's on-screen sister, Tina O'Brien (Sarah Platt), responded with emojis, and Paula Lane herself commented: 'Our song was on the radio the other day and every time it reminds me…Lana Del Rey – video games! Yep we were great!'

Kylie and David's Story

David met Kylie while on holiday in Tenerife and returned to Coronation Street with her as his fiancée. Kylie was the half-sister of Becky McDonald, and her arrival brought trouble to the Platt family. Despite initial disapproval from David's mother Gail, the couple married and had a daughter, Lily. After Kylie killed her dangerous ex, Callum Logan, in self-defence, they planned a fresh start in Barbados, but Kylie was killed by Callum's friend Clayton before they could leave.

Paula Lane's Departure and Career

In 2016, Lane announced her departure from Coronation Street to go on maternity leave, calling the decision difficult. She said: 'I have enjoyed every moment of my time on Coronation Street and learnt so much in the process. I have an amazing on-screen family who have become friends for life so this decision was not taken lightly.' Since leaving, Lane has appeared in Call The Midwife, Father Brown, City 17, and Emmerdale as Ella Foster.
