Ben Carroll has been sworn in as the new premier of Victoria, with his first act as leader being the announcement of a royal commission into alleged corruption in the construction sector. The move comes just four months out from the state election.
Carroll unanimously endorsed, Williams named deputy
Carroll was unanimously endorsed for the role, while transport infrastructure minister Gabrielle Williams secured the deputy leadership. Former premier Jacinta Allan had declared her intention to contest the leadership ballot yesterday but announced her resignation this morning.
Carroll cast his leadership as a new era for Labor politics in Victoria, declaring “I’m not Daniel Andrews, I’m not Jacinta Allan”, and that “change starts today”.
