Detectives have renewed their appeal for information and are offering a substantial £20,000 reward three years after a young man was fatally shot on a North London street.
The Tragic Shooting
Camilo Palacio, aged 23, was walking with a friend along a footpath towards High Road in Turnpike Lane on July 24, 2022, at approximately 9:30pm when gunfire erupted. Both young men attempted to flee, but Camilo was struck by bullets and tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The 23-year-old was wearing a grey tracksuit and white trainers at the time of the attack.
The Distinctive Vehicle
Investigators have released new CCTV footage showing a distinctive dark Range Rover with a white roof that was seen in the vicinity during and in the days preceding the murder. The vehicle was captured driving along Williams Grove and Pellatt Grove before returning towards Stuart Crescent. It subsequently left the area via Ewart Grove and White Hart Lane, and was spotted on Turnpike Lane later that same evening.
In a significant development, the Range Rover was discovered completely burnt out just hours after the shooting on Alexandra Road in Barnet. This vehicle remains crucial to the investigation, with police urgently seeking anyone who might have seen it in the days leading up to the murder or on the night of the shooting.
Ongoing Investigation and Reward
Despite eleven arrests in connection with the murder investigation and two men being convicted of perverting the course of justice, Camilo's killer remains at large. The charity Crimestoppers has now stepped forward with a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and conviction of those responsible for the young man's death.
Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, emphasised the family's suffering: "Camilo's family have endured an unimaginable loss, and someone out there knows something that could finally help them get justice. Even the smallest detail about this vehicle could be the breakthrough detectives urgently need."
She highlighted the anonymity available to potential witnesses: "You will never be asked for your personal details, but what you share could help provide a key piece of information to help bring justice for Camilo and his family."
Detective Inspector Devan Taylor, leading the investigation, reinforced their commitment: "It's been three years since Camilo was killed, and we will not stop until those responsible for his death face justice. We understand people may be concerned about talking to the police, which is why we are being supported by Crimestoppers where people can provide information anonymously."
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police on 101 quoting 'Operation Wattside', visit the Major Incident Police Portal, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
