A shooting at a lakeside park in the United States that left 18 people injured was allegedly sparked by a teenage argument over boys. The incident occurred during a 'Sunday Funday' gathering at Arcadia Lake, near Oklahoma City, where dozens had assembled.
Details of the Incident
Approximately 18 people were injured in the shooting, with three left in critical condition. However, it remains unclear how many were wounded by gunshots. Authorities have been tight-lipped about the exact sequence of events, and the search for suspects is ongoing.
New information has emerged from partygoers present at the public park near Arcadia Lake, a popular swimming and boating spot in Edmond. Jeremiah Braxton, 18, was among the roughly 250 people at the lake. He claimed that the chaos erupted when a group of girls began arguing over boys.
'It just started a whole bunch of chaos,' Braxton told the Associated Press. 'Everybody got scared, dudes was panicking, women was panicking, people seeing their friends fight.'
Social Media Footage
Footage shared on social media from the party shows young people dancing and having fun at Arcadia Lake's Scissortail Campground before the shooting. A short clip captures a fight breaking out among some women, while others dance or remain calm on the sidelines.
Edmond police stated that the party was promoted on social media, attracting a large crowd from the Oklahoma City area. Mayor Mark Nash noted that the incident occurred in a public park designed for large gatherings, but no official reservation had been made through the parks department for that evening.
'We're already taking steps to review and strengthen park operations, permitting processes and security measures,' Nash said.
